Director Adam Shankman: Rock of Ages Will Be Weird-Good

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Are audiences ready for Tom Cruise in 80s drag belting out Def Leppard? Access Hollywood caught up with Rock of Ages director Adam Shankman at Varietys Third Annual Power of Women Luncheon last week, where he dished on his upcoming epic musical, which boasts some of Hollywoods biggest names. The movie is incredibly different than anything youve ever seen, he told Access. Its weird, but weird-good. The director, who is currently editing the movie musical, said fans will see their favorite stars in a whole new big-haired-spandex-makeup sort of way. Its giant movie stars in 80s drag singing rock karaoke, he said of the movie that includes Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alec Baldwin, Julianne Hough, Malin Akerman, Russell Brand and Mary J. Blige. Its people you would never imagine singing and dancing [and] killing it! he continued. Adam told Access that Toms vocal were fully endorsed by one of the decades biggest hair bands. Tom has an amazing voice. There was a bit of a who knew? there, but he rocks it, he explained. Def Leppard came to set and watched him do Pour Some Sugar on Me, and they were like, Oh my God! Hes better than us! It was incredible. Rock of Ages is slated to hit theaters on June 1, 2012. Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Inc.
